poets still dream of being published

A good friend of mine is soaring on the news that his book of poetry has been published, and is now available for sale. If you're interested, please go here (http://www.authorhouse.com/bookstore/ItemDetail.aspx?bookid=54350) to purchase.

Back in the day (seem to be saying that a lot lately) I used to write a lot of poetry. I had notebooks upon notebooks laying around various places. One in the car, one in the bedroom, one in my locker... you name a place and there was notebook. I dreamed of publishing, than I began looking into self-publishing, then I let the dream falter. But seeing Joe's success, the dream has been rekindled (just a little).

It's been so long since I've written anything. It's been an incredibly long time since I've even read in public. I wonder if I could still do it, and how long it would take me to get back to being comfortable with it all...

i registered to vote (last week)

There seems to be a lot more "hype" circling this year's election than there has been in previous years. It could just be me, as I'm taking notice for my first time (really). There's a lot more "buzz" about it online, not to mention the conversations I hear throughout my everyday wanderings. But really, there is a lot of hype around this one.

I've always been one to stay out of politics, but over the past year something has bubbled within me. Calling me, whispering constantly that this election is too important to ignore. This is the election where, 50 years from now, I want to be able to tell my grandchildren that I did participate. That I did cast a vote.

I don't want to be a part of a generation that had a chance to change things, but chose not to. I want this generation to be able to say, "Yes, we accepted what we had to do, and we did it".

So I registered to vote (for my first time ever), and will be going to the polls (in person). I have accepted what I have to do, and am willing to do it.

i stopped blogging about the chiefs

Well, after this post I will stop blogging about the Chiefs' 2008 season.
It's just getting dismal as the games are the same over and over again. The team showed some light against Denver (3 weeks ago), but that's all there has been. Brodie Croyle went down with a season ending injury (against Tennessee), and has basically been written off for the rest of his career. Unfortunately, I'm on that bandwagon too, as I feel Croyle doesn't have the durability of a starting QB.

I still really like watching the young prospects, especially the Chiefs two rookie CBs. And as miserable as our defense is, I still have hope for (LB) Derrick Johnson to break out as a pro-bowler. Perhaps not this season, but soon.

Internet dependant

It's scary how dependand we've become. Out of my top 10 priorities (for work) today, 9 of them depend on internet access. Which makes it all the more fitting that the office's connection/network is down. So, after having completed that 1 task that didn' require a connection, I'm killing time on the Blackberry until our IT guy arrives. I suppose that this downtime can also be used to make some phone calls, or do some filing, or even cleaning my office. But playing on my phone is much more fun. Sent via BlackBerry by AT&T

I made the switch (back)

Yesterday I made the switch from my (first generation) iPhone to a Blackberry Curve. I did this for many reasons:
  • I was getting weary of the iPhone touch screen. Though it's fun to use, and definitely has it's perks, I found it irritating to keep it clean.
  • The iPhone was as reliable as it once was. After Apple's iPhone 2.0 release/update the phone and applications crashed many times. The release of v2.1 seemed to fix most of the issues, but it still wasn't enough to win me back over.
  • I needed emails to be handled "better". I feel that the Blackberry will handle my email volumes (ever increasing) a lot more reliably. It just has a better work flow/integration for my various email accounts.
  • I'm weening myself from Apple. Don't get me wrong, I love the design, function, and overall integration that Apple's products come with. I just feel like I'm getting too caught up in the marketing, and spending more than I really need to. Simplicity is about practicality, and an iPhone was an indulgence for me. The Blackberry does everything I need it too, and I could listen to music and watch movies on it if I wanted to.

Funny thing is that the current OS theme I have (on the Blackberry) is an iPhone theme. The icons are almost exactly the same as the ones I had on the iPhone. I did this to ease the transition as I can easily recognize which icon is phone, email, contacts, etc. I'm embarrassed to admit that while I was setting up the Blackberry (yesterday) I kept trying to touch the screen/icons to make things happen.

The Curve will hold me over until the Bold is released, as I would like to upgrade for the 3G and the wifi. But the nice thing is that there is no rush right now, and I can take my time waiting until the Bold is 1.) released, and 2.) drops in price.

And I have to say, switching back to Blackberry was a good choice. I'm not regretting it one bit.

(I've always liked Blackberry; I just got caught up in the iPhone hype. And like I said, it was an indulgence, not a practical purchase).

Roger Miller's "Whistle Stop"

While I was in London, I saw a McDonalds commercial with this song as its soundtrack:

Ever since then, It's been playing along in my head.
(It's also from Disney's Robin Hood, the animated feature)
